At Lexden Springs our classes are organised as follows:
Key Stage 1
Key Stage 2
Key Stage 3
A Forest School is an innovative educational approach to outdoor play and learning.
It is a time when pupils are taken to familiar woodland to play and learn, some of the play will be directed by adults but most will be led by the pupils themselves. They will be given chance to play together and work as a team developing communication skills and team work abilities
British Forest Schools have been developed and adapted from the original concept implemented in Sweden in the 1950’s and developed throughout other Scandinavian and European Countries.
In a Forest School pupils are not taught or even shown. They find out for themselves
At Lexden Springs we want our pupils to have fun, be happy and relaxed whilst learning, develop confidence in their own abilities and allow them to develop as young people.
Lexden Spring Forest School Leaders aim to follow the 6 guiding principles of forest school:
Principle 1: Forest School is a long-term process of frequent and regular sessions in a woodland or natural environment, rather than a one-off visit. Planning, adaptation, observations and reviewing are integral elements of Forest School.
Principle 2: Forest School takes place in a woodland or natural wooded environment to support the development of a relationship between the learner and the natural world.
Principle 3: Forest School aims to promote the holistic development of all those involved, fostering resilient, confident, independent and creative learners
Principle 4: Forest School offers learners the opportunity to take supported risks appropriate to the environment and to themselves.
Principle 5. Forest School is run by qualified Forest School practitioners who continuously maintain and develop their professional practice.
Principle 6. Forest School uses a range of learner-centred processes to create a community for development and learning.

The aim of the Lexden Springs Beach School is for pupils to be able to develop socially, emotionally and physically as well as giving opportunities to learn.
We aim to give pupils access to a calm, outdoor environment with space to be creative and active or time to be thoughtful and reflective.
Teamwork activities, learning to share, co-operate and work together.
Communicating about what they see, hear and do.
Confidence building tasks. Everyone can succeed at Beach School!
Problem solving tasks.
Working independently, with staff offering support as needed.
Thinking about safety, building awareness of dangers and an ability to risk assess.
Through these activities it is our aim to make every pupil feel good about themselves and give them confidence to try new things.
Skills and attitudes learnt outside are transferred back to the school setting to help pupils achieve across the curriculum.
