Attend, Aspire, Achieve
This year we are keen for us all to work together with the aim to improve our school
attendance from last year.
As always please consider carefully whether your child is ill enough to stay away from school. Essex County Council has published some guidelines on this. If your child is too unwell to attend school, we kindly request a doctor’s note. An appointment slip for any medical appointments is also required. When making appointments please, where possible, arrange these out of school time or at least first thing in the morning or last thing in the afternoon so that your child is not absent for the whole day. It is your responsibility to ensure your child attends school and whole day absences for a one hour appointment will not be authorised. Please telephone the office in the morning to report your child’s absence and the reason why. Please note that pupils with sickness and/or diarrhoea should not return to school for the next 48 hours following the last episode of vomiting or diarrhoea.
We are able to authorise one holiday in term time where there are exceptional circumstances. Please write a letter of request to Simon Wall if you are planning a holiday. If you choose to take your child on holiday without informing the school then this absence will be automatically unauthorised.
Registers close at 9:30am. If your child arrives after this time you will be asked to sign them in and they will be marked as late. The Education Welfare Officer monitors our late marks and if your child is regularly late then we will hold a meeting with you to help resolve this.
School finishes at 3:00pm and pupils are not permitted to leave early on a regular basis. Every pupil’s attendance is monitored weekly by the Senior Leadership Group. If your child’s attendance falls below 90% it is likely that their class teacher will request a meeting with you to see if there is anything they can do to help. The school will send letters out for any pupils whose attendance falls below 85% to invite you in for a more formal meeting with
the assistant head. If a pupil’s attendance falls below 80% with 10 or more unauthorised sessions they will be directly referred to the Education Welfare Service, which may result in a penalty notice.
Whole class attendance percentages are published on the weekly news letter. Pupils who achieve 100% attendance for the term are awarded certificates and those pupils who have 100% attendance for the year are awarded a Gold Certificate. Pupils with the ‘most
improved’ attendance are awarded by the Governors.
Many thanks for your continued support and we look forward to a happy and healthy academic year !
